Email received:Very much enjoyed your post about Rombaux, which I found my way back to via your record day post. Won’t you tell us some of your other favorite record shops in other posts? Harold Moore’s is probably too obvious to nominate, but surely deserving of some kind of salute. And there’s that pleasingly scruffy archipelago of stores near the Notting Hill tube. In NY, where I live, there’s really only Academy Records left as far as classical goes: a few more outlet for jazz and rock. The place I’ve always been really intrigued by but haven’t visited is The Musical Offering, in Berkeley, CA. I’ve bought from them over the phone and they seem to have a wonderful stock, focusing esp on early music: for instance they stock Ismeron’s reissues of Thurston Dart’s clavichord recordings. Rather delightfully, given the name of the shop, the freephone number is 1-800-BWV-1079. Anyway, would be most interested to know of more places you like in further posts.
Thanks for your blog, which has become required reading for me,
Leo Carey
