Êtes-vous Gauri?

Sad but predictable that the many self-appointed guardians of a free press around the world who zealously tweeted Je suis Charlie are not now tweeting Je suis Gauri . Let's be consistent...

Very sad. Agree about consistency as well. Did you see this, Bob?

Yes indeed billoo -

'Authority of any kind, especially in the field of thought and understanding, is the most destructive, evil thing. Leaders destroy the following and followers destroy the leaders. You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple. You have to question everything that man has accepted as valuable, as necessary' ~ Jiddu Krishnamurt

Thanks for that, pli. I certainly understand where you're (he's) coming from but "You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple" is also the mantra of neoliberalism! The 'boundless' self, transgression as the new 'norm' (P. Rieff), the internalization of the carrots and the sticks (Paoli)..well, that's all very convenient for late capitalism! Question everything! Isn't that Descartes? No, I prefer the medieval formulation: 'I believe in order to understand'

As the old man said, doubt thou the stars are fire..but never doubt I love.
