I've just returned from the Palestine Mozart Festival (Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus) where for some of our concerts, random soloists and orchestral members were arbitrarily denied permits to cross the massive great SECURITY WALL that stretches for miles, dividing yet more communities, friends, families. It seemed somewhat absurd for the conductor to have to announce that some performers were missing 'because they weren't allowed past the wall'. Will they ever learn, indeed?
