There was an interesting obituary when Hemmings died by Peter Bart, the editor of the American show business publication, "Variety," who had been a friend of his, lamenting Hemmings' inability to stick with any one thing over the course of his life, even though the man was indisputably brilliant.<BR/><BR/>After being a childhood opera star, and then a movie star, he ended up becoming a television director of hack shows like "Magnum P.I." before taking up movie acting roles again shortly before he died.
