I play the organ myself, and I never got an indication that getting an organist was a real issue.

You had of course the dying congregations, but in the churches I went to there were more than enough young people playing. Unfortunately, the skill level wasn't too high, but I'd rather have an enthusiastic 16 year old than a machine that spits out some sound waves. That's just the foreboding of a horrible future.Berend de Boerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11433622686361556089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8060605.post-1150309298513113582006-06-14T19:21:00.000+01:002006-06-14T19:21:00.000+01:00I'd be interested in hearing non-UK reader's views...I'd be interested in hearing non-UK reader's views on that one.

There are a lot of knowledgable readers outside the UK. Looking at the reader stats for On An Overgrown Path today they break-down as follows:

US = 50%
UK = 18%
France = 9%
Netherlands = 4%
Italy = 2%
Canada = 2%
Greece = 2%
Spain = 1%

But one caveat - this is point of entry to the internet backbone, which is not the same thing as place of residence. For instance all AOL customers come through the US irrespective of where they live, so the US figure is over-stated, but the split is indicative.

Views on the shortage, or otherwise, of young organists in the US, France, Netherlands and elsewhere please.Pliablehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10616598845886342325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8060605.post-1150305401597649152006-06-14T18:16:00.000+01:002006-06-14T18:16:00.000+01:00There are no young organists on the horizon, which...There are no young organists on the horizon, which is a nationwide problem

This seems surprising... Do you believe that this is also true in other countries with many churches and organs?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
