Music blogs and the only show in town

Good for music blogs to see the official Aldeburgh Festival website quoting reviews from the Times, Guardian, Independent, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times and On An Overgrown Path.

I wonder if a certain music journalist still thinks "until bloggers deliver hard facts … paid for newspapers will continue to set the standard as the only show in town"?

I used to find the Evening Standard a useful paper when I was in London, from time to time. They ran a good short contract bridge column, and the rest of the paper was a diversion for a 15 minute ride on the underground. I discarded it without regrets when I reached my hotel.

Since I don't read Mr. L's blog and I do read your very interesting blog, I can't say much more about the matter.

This is a greeting from Missouri, where classical music has died, except for the St. Louis Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, the Missouri Chamber Orchestra (a summer operation here in mid-Missouri) and a few others. I estimate the Kansas City Symphony draws about 50,000 total attendance for a year of classical concerts while the professional baseball team draws about 700,000 over the summer. The Symphony is a better professional symphony than the baseball team is a professional baseball team.

Yours,
Robert E. Harris
